Predictions of the Biggest Hair Trends For 2019

Celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawk—the man behind Laura Harrier, Elizabeth Olsen, Maddie Ziegler, and Karla Souza’s perfect manes—predicted the biggest hair trends for 2019 and I’m ready for all of them. Real talk, my 2019 plans involve working out, eating healthier, budgeting better, and getting a rounded bob I can turn into a wet look before adding extensions to create a floor-length braid. 2019 is the year of the fabulous ‘dos, people. Ahead, take your pick from Hawkins’ predictions. Happy new year and cheers to 365 great hair days.

The Rounded Bob

“2019 is going to be all about the rounded bob,” says Hawkins. “Unlike the A-line bobs or blunt bobs we’ve seen a lot over the past few years, this version is softer and more feminine.” All you’ll need to do in 2019 is invest in a good shine serum and a classic blow out. Voila; instant cool French Girl vibes. Hawkins recommends asking your hairstylist to point cut into your ends to create a softer look.

The Curtain Bangs

Want a change, but don’t want to commit to full on fringe? Curtain bangs might just be the perfect option for you. “This center-parted Bardot fringe is a classic style, but I expect to see a lot of this look in 2019!,” says Hawkins. “If your face is rounder or heart-shaped, this style elongates your face and should hit your cheek bones in a super flattering way.”

The Long Braid

“Okay, so we may never reach the summit that is Tessa Thompson’s iconic floor-grazing braid, but we should all take inspo from it,” explains Hawkins. “This is a perfect protective style if your hair is textured or a great option if your hair is long and won’t hold a style.”

To achieve the look at home, part your hair and pull it into a tight and low ponytail. Then, braid your hair and secure with a clear elastic. Hawkins also notes that more permanent extensions might not be necessary if you have some hair in a drawer you haven’t quite figured out how to use just yet. This is the perfect DIY style that’s actually achievable.

The Wet Look

Wet hair was huge in 2018 and it’s going to be even bigger in 2019. “Not only is this style daring and fresh, it’s totally achievable to do on your own,” says Hawkins. Hawkins uses Oribe’s Super Shine Moisturizing Cream for the perfect balance of shine and glossiness without the crunchiness. The style is also versatile as the hair can work both down or thrown up into a top knot.
